Laozi — also known as Lao Tzu — was a revered ancient Chinese philosopher whose wisdom still resonates to this day. His quote here suggests that often, we focus too much on the external, when true power comes from within. Self-reflection can be difficult; it requires brutal honesty and a radical acceptance of every part of ourselves, good and bad alike. Only through being willing to examine all facets of ourselves can we develop the compassion needed to best serve our own lives, and in turn, the world around us.
