This poignant sentiment appeared in Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s award-winning, posthumous novel “The Wisdom of the Sands.” In July 1944, the French writer and aviator took off in his plane, never to be seen again. Pieces of the plane were finally discovered in the early 2000s, off the coast of Marseille, France. The world mourned the imaginative spirit behind “The Little Prince,” Saint-Exupéry’s 1943 fable featuring a wayward pilot as its narrator, which has sold 200 million copies. Saint-Exupéry did not believe in passively accepting one’s lot in life. Once he determined his goals, he took measurable steps to make them a reality.
